We are excited to announce that Earth Photo 2024 is open for entries, inviting submissions from still and moving image makers of all ages, from anywhere in the world, who have a compelling story to share about our planet.

Photography and film enable us to convey meaning and provoke deep emotional responses far beyond the barriers of language. Now, more than ever, they play an influential role in how we see, represent and understand the world around us.

Established in 2018 by the Society, Forestry England and Parker Harris, Earth Photo looks to reveal the stories behind images, encouraging conversations about our world, its peoples, environments, and the changing climate.

Practitioners of all ages, working in all genres, are encouraged to submit still and moving images that convey the world around us and make us think differently – capturing nature, people, place, forests, the environment, land- and seascapes, or the varied impacts of, and adaptations to, climate change.

Earth Photo features a wide range of awards, with prizes of up to £1,000, as well as opportunities to be mentored by leading photographers and filmmakers, and residencies with prestigious organisations. All entries will be considered by an international jury of experts from the fields of photography, film, geography, and ecology, including distinguished curators, environmentalists, writers and artists.

Entrants selected for the Earth Photo 2024 shortlist will feature in the Earth Photo 2024 website gallery, and their work will be considered for inclusion in New Scientist’s weekly double-page photo spread, Aperture, and for display alongside other shortlisted works in Earth Photo exhibitions across the UK and in China.

Individuals and collectives are encouraged to submit up to 10 images, as singles or a series. Projects need to have been created within the last five years. In addition to photography, Earth Photo welcomes short films between five seconds and five minutes long.

All entries should be submitted online by 5.00pm on Thursday 22 February 2024. An entry fee of £15 will be charged to each entrant.

For further details of the entry requirements, submission process, prizes, and to submit your work, visit the Earth Photo submissions portal.
