Sylvia Sikes DPhil, FZSL, FRGS. Zoologist and authority on the African elephant died peacefully, aged 87, on 3 October 2012 in Newbury.
Author of books including Lake Chad (1972) and The Natural History of the African Elephant (1971), one of the most comprehensive books on the African elephant.
