The YouthxFood Hub is a UK-based initiative that brings young people (aged 16–35) together to tackle two interconnected food system challenges: unequal access to nutritious food and food waste. YouthxFood work with partners across community organisations, local producers, and social enterprises to design and deliver practical solutions that shift how food moves through our communities.
Why this matters
Across the UK, millions of people struggle to access affordable, nutritious food whilst edible food is discarded at every stage of the supply chain. Young people care deeply about these inequities yet rarely have the space to move from concern to action. YouthxFood exist to bridge that gap by creating pathways for young people to lead real change in their own communities, grounded in an understanding that food systems connect everything: health, environment, economics, and justice.
Programmes and activities
YouthxFood are youth-led, meaning young people design and shape our work. Their programmes include partnership projects with food redistribution networks, learning exchanges at local growers and producers, and community-based initiatives that tackle waste and build food access. Youth ambassadors gain hands-on experience in food systems strategy, community organising, and social enterprise, supported by mentorship from practitioners and academics working in this space.
Vision
Building towards a food-secure UK that is resilient, equitable, and generates zero waste. This means food systems that nourish everyone, remain stable through shocks, and value every resource.
