What is a green career?
A green career can be any job that contributes to the protection, preservation or restoration of the environment, helping to create a sustainable future for people and planet. It can be considered a job that helps to mitigate the impacts of environmental challenges and contributes to a sustainable future.
How does geography support green careers?
Studying geography provides students with excellent knowledge and skills necessary to accessing a green career. Geographers have an exceptional understanding of global challenges like climate change, resource security and biodiversity loss, and are uniquely aware of how these challenges interconnect politically and to the economic landscape.
Geographers are also critical thinkers, able to unpick, examine and deconstruct complex concepts. They are problem solvers, team players and excellent communicators – all essential attributes to a green career.
How can you embed green careers into your geography curriculum?
Help your students explore the range of green careers available to them if they choose to study geography. Explore how geographers working in environmental consultancy, sustainability, conservation and GIS use their geographical expertise to help create a greener future.
