Jackie Ronne was an ordinary American woman whose life changed forever after marrying Antarctic explorer Finn Ronne. She participated in the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1946-1948) and became the first American woman in Antarctica and one of the first two women to overwinter there. Jackie dedicated her life to Antarctica and helped shape the narrative of 20th century Antarctic exploration.

Dr Joanna Kafarowski is an independent scholar and geographer who writes about women and polar history. She is a Fellow of the Society and a Fellow of the Explorers Club and wrote the first comprehensive biography of a female Arctic explorer entitled, The Polar Adventures of a Rich American Dame A Life of Louise Arner Boyd. She lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
