Our speakers

Professor Michael Cunliffe is the Director of Science at the Marine Biological Association where he leads a diverse research group who study a range of topics in microbial biology, ecology, and evolution. The research group works both in the lab and out in the marine environment, locally around Plymouth and in distant locations, including polar regions and the open ocean.

Louise MacCallum is the Solent Restoration Project Manager at the Blue Marine Foundation. Louise spent her childhood beachcombing along the Pembrokeshire coast. Since studying Marine Biology at the University of Liverpool she has worked on conservation projects in the UK and overseas. Louise has lived on the shores of the Solent for more than a decade and is passionate about restoring its intricate marine habitats.

Professor Peter Jones from the Department of Geography at UCL specialises in research on different approaches to governing human uses of marine ecosystems. He is internationally recognised as an authority on marine protected area, marine spatial planning and fisheries governance issues, with a particular focus on how state, market and participative approaches can be combined to achieve strategic conservation objectives.
