The future starts with us: Gordon Brown in conversation

Every day we see evidence of the fracturing of the rules-based order. War, mass migration, economic disruption and climate collapse fill our screens. At the same time, many feel a different kind of fear.

The erosion of civic life has led to an epidemic of loneliness, a loss of community spirit and a growing sense that there is no common cause worth fighting for.

How interconnected is the breakup of the world order and the breakdown of civic life? Why is it that millions are turning to populist nationalist parties in search of solutions? And what can we do about it?

Gordon Brown will join the Guardian’s Opinion executive editor, Hugh Muir, to discuss the intricate connections between global instability and civic decline.

They’ll also explore Brown’s proposals for the practical ways we can all actively engage in our communities and renew the global order, as explored in Brown’s new book, The Future Starts With Us, which in-person attendees have the chance to purchase a signed copy of.
