Kensington Fieldwork Grant

Four annual awards of £25,000 for experienced researchers, explorers, and storytellers to support impactful field research and expeditions.

About the Award

The Kensington Fieldwork Grant is designed to support innovative geographical field research and expedition projects with the potential for significant impact.

Projects should combine local and global relevance with a clear purpose to advance knowledge, robust and appropriate methods of data collection, and opportunities to share findings and data widely. Applications should demonstrate strong links and collaborations with local agencies and communities. We are particularly interested in projects that use creative, engaging, and impactful approaches to dissemination and storytelling.

Applications from researchers, expeditioners and storytellers across geographical and related disciplines all are strongly encouraged. Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant experience appropriate to the proposed project

The awards are generously supported by Kensington, which offers personalized, private-guided journeys to over 100 countries. Grant awardees must commit to engaging with the RGS and Kensington audiences and communities through selected events and outreach channels.

  • The award is open to individuals and teams
  • At least one member of the expedition team must be a Fellow or member of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) at the time of application and for the duration of the funded project
