Anna Hughes is the director of Flight Free UK, a charity that encourages people to travel without flying. She quit flying 20 years ago and set about trying to show that adventure doesn’t have to involve a flight, starting with a 4,000 mile cycle expedition around the coast of Britain.

She has since sailed around the same coastline, boated the inland waterways of the Netherlands from north to south, ridden the length of France including cycling up Mont Ventoux three times in one day, crossed the Alps by bike from Lyon to Milan, run the Copenhagen marathon (getting there by train) and completed the UK Three Peaks by bike.

She has written three books about cycling and adventure: Eat, Sleep, Cycle, a bike ride around the coast of Britain, which details her 4,000 mile ride around Britain; Pedal Power, a collection of stories from the world of cycling; and Peaky Climbers, an account of a charity ride undertaken by eight amateur cyclists to complete 21 peaks of the Tour de France in seven days.

Anna has extensive experience as a panellist and workshop leader and is in demand as a speaker on environment, transport and aviation.
