Claudia is an artist, illustrator, teacher and writer from Suffolk. She has a passion for all things maritime and spends as much time as possible travelling with her sketchbook, preferably by sea.

To discover how the over-abundance of photographs has changed our way of seeing, she voyaged under sail from Galapagos to Falkland via Cape Horn with sketchbook and no camera. As Artist in Residence for Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute she spent five weeks with the Royal Navy in Antarctica and South Georgia. She has led sketching and sailing voyages in the Arctic as well as closer to home in the Hebrides and Cornwall.

Publications include a series of six children’s books for the Royal Yachting Association as well as books about art and travel: Antarctic Sketchbook, Sketchbook Sailor and One Line at a Time. She believes that sketching is a way of seeing more, taking the time to observe and connect with our world. She runs regular workshops and gives talks on why sketching is good for you and how to do it in impossible places.

She lives afloat on the River Deben in Woodbridge and spends her free time playing the harp or writing songs when the tide is out. When the tide is in you’ll find her out on the river with sketchbook in kayak or sailing boat.
