Drew Cartwright is a highly experienced youth development and expedition professional with more than two decades of leadership in outdoor learning, adventure education, and youth expeditions. He currently serves as Head of Expeditions at British Exploring Society, where he leads the development and delivery of adventurous programmes and overseas expeditions designed to enable young people to grow in confidence, resilience, leadership, and self-belief through meaningful challenge.

Throughout his career, Drew has combined a strong commitment to youth work with extensive technical and operational expertise. Professionally qualified in Youth Work and Community Development, he has worked with thousands of young people from diverse backgrounds, including young carers, care-experienced young people, home-educated learners, young offenders, and those with physical or mental health challenges. His approach centres on widening access to life changing experiences and ensuring that adventure remains a powerful tool for personal and social development.

Prior to joining British Exploring Society, Drew was Head of Centre and Outdoor Education Advisor for a large local authority, leading multi-disciplinary teams responsible for outdoor learning, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, educational visits, and community engagement programmes. During this time, he played a significant role in developing inclusive pathways into adventure for young people who might otherwise never have had the opportunity to participate.

An accomplished expedition leader, safeguarding lead, trainer, technical advisor and risk management specialist, Drew holds a wide range of national governing body qualifications across mountain, paddlesport, climbing, caving, cycling, and high ropes disciplines. He remains actively involved in the wider outdoor sector through a number of leadership roles. His passion continues to be helping young people realise their potential through exploration, challenge, and shared journeys in wild places.
