Eve Bluffield is a fourth-year Anthropology and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh, with a particular interest in political ecology, extractivism, and the rights of nature. Through her fieldwork, she is developing her practice in collaborative anthropology and participatory methods.

This summer, Eve led a field expedition to the Nechí River in Colombia’s Bajo Cauca region. She facilitated workshops with fishing communities whose traditional livelihoods are being transformed by river degradation associated with gold mining.

The work built on her previous summer’s research, during which she learned from campesino associations and land defenders working to implement recognition of the Cauca River as a subject of rights.

Eve is also interested in community environmental monitoring and had studied environmental risk communication.
