Lisa Drewe is an award-winning outdoor writer and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society whose work focuses on Britain’s islands and coasts, and the changing relationships between people, place and the sea.

She has spent a lifetime exploring more than 600 British islands, largely on foot and by paddleboard, researching routes for her books and journalism. This has given her extensive experience of planning and undertaking human-powered journeys through remote, tidal and exposed coastal environments, and sparked a growing curiosity about the environmental and social changes she was witnessing along the way.

In 2026, Lisa received the Royal Geographical Society’s Neville Shulman Challenge Award for Attention All Shipping: Journeys Along Britain’s Fragile Island Edges. Travelling to an island in each of Britain’s Shipping Forecast sea areas, she is combining human-powered circumnavigations with citizen science, environmental observations and conversations with island communities to explore how environmental change is being experienced and how people and places are responding.

Lisa is Chair of Trustees of Whale and Dolphin Conservation and an Ordnance Survey Champion. She is the author of five outdoor guidebooks, three of which have won the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild Guidebook of the Year. She has researched and written more than 50 Walk of the Week routes for The Times and The Sunday Times in Scotland, and her outdoor and travel writing has appeared widely in national newspapers and magazines.
