Born and bred in Eryri, Marianne Taylor is co-director of Tirio, a unique family business, offering Packrafting, Water Safety & Rescue, First Aid and Outdoor Risk Management.

She considers herself to be an ordinary, local mum of two with a lifelong love of the outdoors. A former teacher and Graphic designer, she gained her Paddling and Mountain Leader qualifications in her late forties to turn spending time together with her family outdoors, into a full-time passion.

In March 2024 she undertook ‘The Longest Line’, a 315km Packraft Journey from the South West Coast to North East Coast of Scotland; over sea lochs, mountains, open water, rivers and everything the Scottish winter weather could throw in along the way. She loves to find unique ways to ‘join up the blue’, Packrafting here in the UK and beyond. From bike-rafting journeys combining rivers from her doorstep in Wales, to Scandinavian expeditions linking remote lakes and rivers. She feels Packrafting inspires you look at maps in a completely different way.

She’s an RGS Off Site Safety Management Instructor and Swift Water Rescue Technician. Her ethos about adventure is that it doesn’t have to be simply gruelling, it should also be accessible and enjoyable and if she can get out there, anyone can! She illustrated the book: ‘Packrafting: a UK Manual’ by husband Jason Taylor and together they offer Packrafting courses and guided journeys to help others to enable their adventure.
