Richard Matthews is an outdoor professional, cartographer and logistics specialist. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a member of the British Cartographic Society, Richard has spent much of his career exploring, mapping and working in challenging outdoor environments.

His expeditions have taken him across the UK and internationally, including completing the Slovenian Mountain Trail, travelling to Mongolia as part of the Mongol Rally and circumnavigating the globe in a 1994 Nissan Micra. As an expedition logistics specialist, Richard specialises in desert, vehicle-based and mountain expeditions.

Richard is also a practising cartographer, combining his experience in the outdoors with a passion for maps and geographical storytelling. He is the Restless Earth Workshop Co-ordinator for the British Cartographic Society, using mapping and geographical skills to explore disaster and emergency scenarios. Richard is the Director of the Dartmoor Outdoor Festival which is building year on year.

The festival celebrates Dartmoor, its communities and the wide range of outdoor activities that can be experienced across the moor. Through the festival, Richard is working to encourage people to explore Dartmoor, support local communities and businesses and promote responsible and sustainable engagement with the outdoors.
