Tom McShane FRGS is an award‑winning expedition filmmaker whose career has been defined by capturing powerful human stories in some of the world’s most challenging environments. With more than two decades of experience operating at the intersection of exploration, safety and visual storytelling, Tom brings a rare blend of creative vision and fieldcraft to every project.
Beginning his career in the British Army, Tom led Combat Camera Teams on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, experiences that shaped his approach to judgement, resilience and working under pressure. He later applied those skills to civilian expedition work, serving as Expedition Leader and Production Photographer for Levison Wood’s Walking the Nile and Walking the Himalayas—projects that required months of remote travel, complex logistics and the ability to film in unpredictable, high‑risk settings.
Tom’s filmmaking portfolio spans world‑first creative projects, international broadcast commissions and long‑form documentary work. He holds a Guinness World Record for directing the first musical performance on a moving iceberg in Greenland, and his latest feature documentary, When Life Gives You Lemons… Everyone’s Everest, has won multiple awards for its intimate portrayal of resilience and recovery. His work has appeared on the covers of best‑selling books, major news outlets and global campaigns.
