Spike Reid is an expedition paddleboarder, International Mountain Leader, and photographer. He is the first person to descend the entire River Ganges by stand-up paddleboard.

The Ganges descent took him 98 days from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, through some of the most sacred and densely populated landscapes on Earth. He did it to raise awareness of the single-use plastic that ends up in our rivers, our oceans and ultimately our food chain. He has also paddleboarded the Shannon, circumnavigated Martinique, and explored rivers across Britain.

Spike won the first RGS-IBG / Land Rover Bursary with two friends and drove a Defender 110 around the world along the 50°N line, interviewing farmers and other primary sector workers about how climate change was reshaping their lives.

In the mountains, he has made first ascents in Tajikistan and Siberia, plus trained young people in the High Arctic and the jungles of Borneo and trekked through Bhutan and Afghanistan. He recently crossed the Atlantic by catamaran.
