Biography
Iain Hay is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Flinders University and Director of the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia. A specialist in human geography, his research focuses on geographies of oppression, research methods, and professional ethics. He has held major leadership roles across institutional, national, and international levels, including First Vice President of the International Geographical Union, President of the Institute of Australian Geographers, and foundation Dean (Education) at Flinders. An influential voice in scholarly publishing, he has written books selling over 100,000 copies, founded journals including Ethics, Place and Environment, and currently edits three international book series. His contributions have earned prestigious international honours, including the IGU’s Lauréat d’Honneur, the Prime Minister’s Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year, the New Zealand Distinguished Geographer Medal, and a rare Fellowship of the American Association of Geographers.
