Biography

Adrian Tear graduated BA (Hons) Geography (Durham) in 1991, gaining his MSc Geographic Information Systems (Edinburgh) in 1992. Following a successful commercial career in the market analysis and web development sectors, Adrian's PhD in Geography, examining the role of space and place in ~8 million politicised social media interactions, was awarded by the University of Portsmouth in 2018. Adrian lectures at the University of Portsmouth and at the University of Edinburgh, where he is an Honorary Fellow in the School of GeoSciences. He is an active investor in several high-technology businesses and continues to develop web-based software to solve geographical problems. Adrian’s research interests include geographical information science, big data, data visualisation, online social networks, and the use of GIS and geodata in business.
