Biography

Dr Chrissy Mitchell (Ph.D M.Sc B.Sc FRGS FCIWEM C.Geog C.Sci C.Env C.WEM) works nationally within the DEFRA/Environment Agency/Welsh Government/Natural Resources Wales Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) R&D Programme, leading on reservoir safety. Her work spans modelling and forecasting, engineering, hydrology, catchment planning, policy, and incident management. Previously, Chrissy was Integrated Assessment Manager, synthesising Environment Agency evidence into accessible insights on the state of the environment across air, land, and water. She also served as Business Development and Performance Manager for the Flood Forecasting Centre, collaborating with the Met Office to establish the UK’s first national centre. Chrissy joined the Environment Agency in 2003, contributing to regulation, strategic planning, sustainable asset management, and climate change policy for flood risk. She is an active mentor and volunteer (a former CIWEM River and Coastal Group Chair) and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Flood Risk Management.
