Gemma Cassells is a Chartered Geographer and senior strategy professional specialising in place-based economic development, innovation systems, and climate-led transition. She leads and coordinates complex, multi-partner programmes across local, national, and European scales, including as Project Coordinator for the Horizon Europe ACCEND initiative focused on smart, net zero and regenerative cities. Her expertise spans innovation policy, data and AI ethics, ecosystem building, and governance. Gemma is experienced in translating complex, place-based evidence into clear, decision-ready advice for policymakers and partners, and is committed to responsible, inclusive innovation. She is an active mentor with the Institute of Economic Development, supporting sustainable economic development practice.
