Dr Hilary Bishop CGeog

Biography

Hilary studied at the Institute of Irish Studies, University of Liverpool and now works at Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University where she teaches Corporate Social Responsibility on the BA Business Studies programme and leads a suite of modules on the new BSc Business Management sustainability pathway. In 2015 she received a Staff Citizenship Award for her role as Community Engagement Specialist, North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee for the Environment Agency. In her capacity as a non-Executive Board member, Hilary provided non-executive leadership challenge and support to the executive helping to decide on local priorities, raise local levies and approve programmes of work. These included major work on the Carlisle flood alleviation scheme, emergency works at Cockermouth and the Warrington flood alleviation scheme. Hilary was also the lead member for the committee’s 2030 and Beyond Vision and a longstanding member of the steering committee for their annual flood conference. Hilary is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the recipient of the society’s Dudley Stamp Memorial Fund award. She holds a number of other awards including a Willard Potts and Don Jordan Emerging Scholar Award from the American Conference for Irish Studies (West) in San Francisco and a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant. Her current research focusses on the Geography of Religion. She has delivered public lectures both nationally and internationally and has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals.
