Biography
Cobus is Senior GIS consultant at Arup and partner with Systems Innovation, with a focus on urban complexity. Previous projects he has been involved in include Thames Tideway Tunnel, London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, the Ha'il Regional Development Strategy project (Saudi Arabia) and Peru Reconstruction Programme. Cobus has a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and a MSc in Geographical Information Science from Birkbeck, University of London. He also holds a PhD degree with Birkbeck and his research focused on the study of persistent urban segregation through the application of spatial metrics and agent-based simulation. Further interest includes research in emergent properties and the evolution of global cities, through the application of complexity science. He is a Chartered Scientist with the UK Science Council, a member of the Institute for Science and Technology and an associate with the Association of Professional Futurists.
