Dr Matthew Ellis CGeog (Teacher)

Biography

Dr Matthew Ellis is a Chartered Geographer (Teacher) and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society whose geographical training underpins thirty years building emergency management and resilience capability across sectors and continents. His BSc Geography (First Class Honours, UNSW) and PhD (University of Sydney, School of Geosciences) ground a career applying spatial, human-geographic, and hazards analysis to real-world risk — from NSW SES floodplain mapping to programme leadership at Abu Dhabi's Rabdan Academy, where he chaired a tri-jurisdiction-accredited emergency management and business continuity programme. As Program Chair he led faculty, designed curricula, and translated geographical method into workforce capability for government agencies. He has carried geographical insight from frontline response to ministerial policy engagement on national emergency management professionalisation. His doctoral and ongoing research examines the demographics, education, and competence of the emergency management workforce worldwide.
