Miss Nina MacVinish CGeog (GIS)

Biography

Nina is the GIS Lead for the global consultancy firm Stantec in the Middle East (https://www.stantec.com/en/offices/middle-east-locations-hub) She has been leading the spatial transformation journey with her International Clients over the past 9 years in the Middle East and previously 10 years in the UK, by providing expert geosolutions as a software developer to help design and develop GIS programming applications and tools. Her main discipline areas are Water and Roads with a special focus on flood risk management and creating bespoke mapping for emergency management centers to provide resilience mitigation by using a number of spatial analysis and spatial modelling techniques to understand complex issues for her Clients needs. Nina is a graduate of the University of St. Andrews - Geography (BSc. Hons), University of Glasgow – Geospatial & Mapping Sciences (Pg Dip) and is currently pursuing her MBA with Durham University. She is an initial assessor for Chartered Geographer applications with RGS and a certified Geomatics Manager through the Canadian Institute for Geomatics. Her current interests lie within ¬¬BIM and GIS and she takes a keen interest in the alignment of both specialties in their progression. She regularly attends UK and International Geospatial conferences and has presented at the ESRI Middle East conference in Jordan with her paper entitled “Flooding in the Desert”. She enjoys broadening her technical knowledge and to network with her fellow peers within the GIS community. When she isn’t at work, she enjoys exploring new places in the Middle East (most recently Saudi Arabia) and further afield in addition to improving upon her Arabic language skills.
