Adrian Friend is Head of Defence, National Security and Public Safety at Esri UK. With a career spanning thirty-five years at the intersection of geography, technology and national security, Adrian brings a rare combination of operational experience and strategic insight to the application of location enablement across some of the UK’s most complex and consequential environments. Prior to joining Esri UK, Adrian served for over twenty years as a British Army Officer in the Royal Engineers, undertaking operational tours and providing strategic ISTAR advice up to Cabinet level. He holds MScs in Geographic Information Science and is an EMCC Senior Practitioner-accredited executive coach. Adrian’s professional thesis is that location is the connective tissue integrating data and organisations across artificial boundaries - and that AI cannot reason spatially without it.
