Biography

Dan is the Director of the Division of Environmental Permits at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in Albany, New York, with responsibility for the management of environmental permit staff throughout the State of New York. In 2005 Dan began working for Environmental Permits in the State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Training Unit, responsible for educating the public and local governments in the SEQR process through public outreach and training programs. In addition to responsibility for staff GIS training and GIS support for visual impact assessments, Dan was part of the inter-departmental group that produced the Environmental Resource Mapper (ERM), an interactive mapping application that can be used to identify some of New York State's natural resources and environmental features that are state or federally protected, or of conservation concern. Prior to working for DEC, Dan worked as the Director of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at a Capital District landscape architecture, engineering and planning consultancy, as well as 10 years teaching Geography. Dan has a BA (Hons) with a major in Geography from Wolverhampton Polytechnic, a PGCE in geography education from Goldsmith's and an MA in Geography (GIS & Spatial Analysis) from SUNY Albany.
