Biography
David Wood has over 25 years of experience within the civil service, primarily as an analyst, although he has undertaken a policy role and a delivery role at G7 and G6 level respectively. He has worked in a variety of government departments, including DLUHC, DfT, Defra, DfE, BEIS and MoJ. He holds a joint honours degree in economics and geography from Queen Mary University of London and initially joined government on the economics fast stream. More recently he has been leading multi-disciplinary evidence teams (economists, statisticians, social researchers, operational researchers, geographers, data scientists, data engineers and most recently natural scientists). Within Defra he leads the Environment Science and Analysis within Environment Strategy and has previously led work on data science across Defra. In addition to his roles in Defra he is also Head of the Government Geography Profession, which is based at the Cabinet Office with the Geospatial Commission and is one of the seven professions that have come together to form the Government Analysis Function.
