Biography

Ian Spencer is the senior civilian Geographer in the UK Ministry of Defence. As a Deputy Head of the UK’s National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI), he is responsible for delivering global assured geospatial and environmental information, products and services to UK Defence, including services and products to enable safe military aviation and maritime navigation globally. Ian is head of the civilian Defence Geography profession and Ministry of Defence Departmental Head of Profession for the cross-Government Geography profession. He graduated with Geography BSc at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (University of London) in 1990, achieved a distinction in the Master of Business Administration programme at Imperial College London in 2002, and is also a Chartered Manager.
