Biography
James is a Chartered Land Surveyor and Chartered Geographer with over 35 years’ experience across the global land, development, and geospatial sectors. Educated at TU Dublin and the University of London, he has worked on major surveying and infrastructure projects across Europe and on mapping, surveying, and informal land rights programmes with the United Nations. James is Head of Professional Practice: Land and Development and Professional Standards at RICS, with responsibility for geospatial practice, professional standards, and best practice across land and resource sectors. He chairs the International Land Measurement Standards Coalition, is vice chair of FIG Commission 9, and serves as Secretary General of CASLE. His current work focuses on geospatial practice, land administration, informal settlements, customary land, land acquisition and compensation, and the formalisation of land and property rights.
