Martin Daniel Smith is a Senior Scientist and Flood, Coastal, and Erosion Risk (FCERM) Economist working in the Water Environment and Flood Risk team at Arup, based in Leeds. He read physical geography at the University of Sheffield, and then undertook a masters degree at the University of Leeds where he focused on fluvial environments. He has over 9 years of professional experience in consultancy and has worked on fluvial, surface water, and foul drainage projects. He currently works on a range on projects, applying geographical principles and collaborating with other disciplines in areas such as: flood risk management, FCERM economic appraisals, environmental economics, carbon appraisal, climate resilience, reservoir consequence assessments, and geospatial analysis. He is a HM Treasury certified Better Business Case Practitioner.
