Biography
Matt is a climate risk and catastrophe modelling and exposure specialist, with particular interest in the use of geospatial and remote sensing data for risk assessment. Previously, he has held roles as a Senior Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank, head of Exposure Management and Catastrophe Risk Analysis and Modelling at Argo Global, Mitsui Sumitomo, as well as specialist roles at Willis, Guy Carpenter and at the modelling companies EQECAT and RMS. Matt was originally a cartographer and GIS analyst, working in various UK government departments. He is a member of the organising committee of the RGS-IBG Professional Practice Group on Disaster Risk Management, and a Council Member of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society. Matt is also the UK Principal Representative to the Programme Board of the Intergovernmental Panel on Earth Observation (GEO) and the Chair of the Technical Advisory Group of the Global Risk Modelling Alliance. In 2017, he was joint author of a Wiley textbook ‘Natural Catastrophe Modelling – a Practitioner’s Guide’. He has also published numerous articles related to his ongoing PhD research on beach morphodynamics.
