Biography

Melanie Barker is a leader of Geography with almost 20 years’ leadership experience, including most recently as an SLE in Derbyshire where she has supported colleagues (in a range of subjects) through the demands of the new GCSEs and A-levels. Her particular areas of expertise focus on ensuring that KS3 is fit for purpose as the foundation for GCSE (and A level) Geography; creating meaningful fieldwork at all Key Stages (both locally and further afield) and finally formative and summative assessment. She is Principal Examiner for an AS paper (Changing Places and Fieldwork) and an A-level paper (Global Systems: Water and Carbon Cycle, and Global Governance). She is also a Foundation Director of a large Multi Academy Trust, having previously been Chair of Governors to one of the school’s within the Trust.
