Biography
John Ewart Gordon is an Honorary Professor in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. He completed a PhD in Geography at Aberdeen University and was a geomorphologist with the statutory nature conservation agencies in Britain for over 30 years. He is a member of the Geoheritage Specialist Group of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. As well as geoconservation, his interests include glaciers and mountain geomorphology. He has published many academic and popular articles on these topics and has authored/edited a number of books, including 'Quaternary of Scotland' (1993), 'Antarctic Environments and Resources' (1998) and 'Landscapes and Landforms of Scotland' (2021). He is a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and the British Society for Geomorphology. He was awarded the W.S. Bruce Medal from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1987) and the Geddes Environment Medal from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (2025).
