Biography
My career, after completing my PhD at Wye College (University of London) and undertaking short-term Research Assistantships, started as a Senior Research Officer in the ESRC Data Archive at the University of Essex in the role of ESRC Census Officer with promotion to Principal Research Officer and other roles following. He joined Kingston University in November 1989 to launch the first BSc Honours Degree in GIS in Europe. He has fulfilled numerous roles on the committees of the RGS’s Population (PopGRG) and Rural Geography Research Groups (RGRG) and on behalf of the wider geographical community and has undertaken consultancies for private and public sector organisations. His externally funded research, including a British Academy Senior Fellowship in 2012-13, focuses on contemporary and historical applications of GIS, using quantitative and qualitative approaches to address questions relating to population dynamics and land use change in rural and urban areas
