Professor Sir Paul Curran CGeog

Biography

Sir Paul is a physical geographer specialising in environmental remote sensing. He was a university leader, serving as Vice-Chancellor & President of City St Georges, University of London for over a decade and previously as Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Science and Head of Geography of the University of Southampton. He started his career in the geography departments of Bristol, Reading, Sheffield and Swansea, was a NASA research scientist (Ames, California) and advisor to the European Space Agency. Sir Paul's research involves the use of satellite sensors to monitor our environment and is focused on vegetation productivity and climate change. He has chaired several national committees and is currently Chair of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the NHS National Joint Registry and Walbrook Institute, London, Director of the Universities Superannuation Scheme Ltd., President of the Remote Sensing & Photogrammetry Society and Patron of The Conversation.
