Biography

Stephen Royle is Emeritus Professor of Island Geography at Queen’s University Belfast, having had visiting positions at the University of Iowa; University of Prince Edward Island; National Taiwan Normal University and Kagoshima University. He has written 20 books, one republished in Japanese, and over 200 other publications. He was President of the Geographical Society of Ireland and the Ulster Society for Irish Historical Studies, Treasurer of the International Small Island Studies Association, Deputy Editor of Island Studies Journal, on the Council of British Geography. He is past chair of the RGS Northern Ireland region and serves on the committee of the Geographical Association Belfast Branch. Royle is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Member of the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA).
