Wing Commander Ret'd Clifford Fletcher-Jones CGeog (Teacher)
Biography
Clifford Fletcher-Jones is an applied geographer who teaches and lectures across secondary and higher education, alongside work in national and international security, policy, and public scholarship. His practice focuses on political geography, cultural and humanistic geography, and emerging space geographies, with particular interest in how space, power, legitimacy, and infrastructure shape strategic behaviour across terrestrial and extra-terrestrial domains. In his previous career as a Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force, he applied geographic analysis in senior defence roles, using spatial reasoning to inform decision-making in contested operational and strategic environments. This work involved analysing terrestrial and orbital terrain, access, infrastructure dependency, and spatial risk in support of national and international security objectives. He is the developer of Anthrocosmology, a cultural-humanistic geographic framework examining humanity’s relationship with space, and Orbitscapes, which conceptualise orbital environments as geographic terrain. Alongside his teaching and lecturing positions, he applies geographic analysis in operational and policy contexts and contributes to government strategy groups and leading think tanks on space governance and security.
