There are more than 900 approved Chartered Geographers - academics, teachers, GI scientists, conservationists, planners, surveyors, environmental and economic consultants, civil servants, military personnel and many others.

Chartered Geographer is an internationally recognised accreditation, with approximately 10% of current Chartered Geographers residing or working outside the UK.

 

 

 

 

Career profiles of Chartered Geographers

A number of Chartered Geographers have also provided career profiles for the Society's #ChooseGeography campaign, highlighting the range of careers that studying geography can lead to, and demonstrating the different ways geography skills, knowledge and understanding are used in professional life. Ashley Parry Jones

Ashley Parry Jones CGeog is Director - Planning and Head of Profession - Land at WSP. Accredited in 2002, Ashley has been a Final Assessor for the Chartered Geographer scheme and now Chairs the Society's Professional Committee. Ashley was elected Vice President - Professional of the Society in 2023.

 

Clare Hadley

Clare Hadley CGeog (GIS) is Policy and Engagement Manager at Ordnance Survey. Accredited in 2005, Clare has been a Final Assessor for the Chartered Geographer scheme and is now a member of the Society's Professional Advisory Group.

 

Marielle O'Lone

Marielle O’Lone CGeog (GIS) is the Principal GIS Consultant at WSP. Marielle has over 13 years’ experience in the planning, management and implementation of large GIS projects, and was accredited in 2015.

 

Ian McGuinness

Ian McGuinness CGeog (GIS) was accredited in 2012. He is Partner and Head of Geospatial at Knight Frank, and until 2018 was Troop Commander with 135 Geographic Squadron, Royal Engineers. Ian is a member of the Society's Professional Advisory Group.
