Food Geographies Research Group committee vacancies
The Food Geographies Research Group (FGRG) has several committee roles due for election at this year’s AGM, which will be held at the Royal Geographical Society's Annual Conference on Wednesday 2 September at 2.25pm.
Postgraduate Representative (one year)
The PGR rep role is all about supporting postgraduate researchers and helping to build a welcoming, active PGR community within the Food Geographies Research Group.
In the past, PGR reps have organised sessions for PGRs and ECRs at the RGS Annual Conference, as well as online events like quiet writing sessions and virtual coffee mornings.
The new PGR rep will work alongside Clare, the current rep to organise these activities and come up with new ideas to get people involved.
Early Career Officer (three years)
The Early Career Officer is responsible for building a welcoming and supportive community for Early Career researchers who are interested in Food Geographies!
The Early Career Officer often works closely with the PGR reps to organise events and activities.
Digital Officer (three years)
The digital officer is responsible for the group’s communication channels, for example maintaining the FGRG website, keeping social media up to date and sharing activities/events.
Membership Officer (three years)
The membership officer is responsible for keeping the research group up to date on membership numbers and activities. They welcome new members, respond to new queries, and engage with the broader membership of the research group beyond the committee.
Conference Officer (three years)
Please note that the existing conference officer is standing for another term, but others are still welcome to apply!
The conference officer is responsible for working with the rest of the FGRG committee and the RGS to support FGRG’s involvement in the RGS Annual International Conference and to coordinate FGRG session sponsorship. This role requires strong organisational skills and an ability and willingness to help to shape session proposals for sponsorship by the FGRG.
Dissertation Prize Coordinator (three years)
Please note that the existing Dissertation Prize Coordinator will be standing for another term, but others are still welcome to apply!
This role involves receiving dissertation submissions from various university geography departments and communicating with the whole committee to arrange the judging process.
The Dissertation Prize Coordinator also shares details of the winning dissertations and arranges for prizes to be awarded in collaboration with the Treasurer.
How to apply
Committee roles are open to members/fellows of the RGS-IBG, or those who are willing/planning to join the RGS. If you are interested in putting yourself forward for any of these roles, please complete this form before 2.00pm on Thursday 20 August.
Most roles have a term of three years, however we recognise that it is not always possible to commit to this. If you are interested in one of the above roles, but could only consider a shorter term of two years, please do get in touch (r.stclair@leeds.ac.uk).
Elections will take place during the AGM on Wednesday 2 September. If more than one person puts themselves forward for each role, anonymous voting will take place in-person at the AGM.
