The Space, Sexualities and Queer Research Group (SSQRG) promotes research and scholarship on topics related to sexualities and queer geographies.

We welcome peers to discuss its mission and activities at the AGM, which will be administered via video conferencing (MS Teams) on 8 September 2026, 12.05–12.55pm.

Participation is based on pre-registration by 1 September 1.00pm through this form. Following the closing date, the meeting link will be shared with pre-registered participants only.

The AGM will attend to the following matters:

• Elections of available roles: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Postgraduate Representative, Ordinary Committee Member
• Reporting of past activities
• Undergraduate Dissertation Prize
• Postgraduate Research Activity
• Plans for the coming year
• Any other business

Committee vacancies

The Research Group calls for nominations for the roles available on this occasion: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Postgraduate Representative, and Ordinary Committee Member. Candidates for the role of Honorary Officer (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) and Postgraduate Representative will need to be based in the UK to commit to fulfilling their post.

Deputy roles might be appointed to shadow the current honorary officers, with a view to replacement of these roles on successful completion of the shadowing period.

Honorary Officer

The Postgraduate Representative shall be elected for a period of one year, renewable up to three terms of office. Committee Members, including the Honorary Officers (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) and Ordinary Committee Member, are typically elected for a period of three years and may be re-elected for another term.

Ordinary Committee Member

A few places are available for Ordinary Committee Members. All Committee Members are expected to make active contributions to the mission of the SSQRG and to organise relevant activities.

People in roles that remain dormant are likely to be requested to relinquish their role. Some Committee Members were successful in securing resources for activities in the past, and we wish to pursue this course.

We particularly welcome initiatives from Postgraduate Researchers and early-career researchers, as well as activities focusing on trans inclusivity. The latter is of particular importance in demonstrating good allyship at a crucial and troubling time for trans people, following the UK Supreme Court ruling of 16 April 2025 on the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010.

Potential candidates for available roles are requested to complete this nomination form by 1 September 11.59pm. Please include in the form the details of a proposer and seconder (who should both be RGS-IBG Fellows). The form also allows self-nominations by submitting a short statement of no more than 200 words about why you want to take on the role.

Please note that RGS-IBG Research Group funding – and therefore, its continued existence – depends on the number of official Research Group members.
