What can Cliff offer to schools?
Cliff brings together classroom teaching, university lecturing, and applied geography from defence and policy to offer the following:
Extension and enrichment sessions for students and teachers: Talks and workshops that take geography beyond the syllabus and prepare students for university study. Example topics include:
- Geographies of outer space: orbits as terrain, launch sites as landscapes, and space debris.
- Vertical geographies: from the deep ocean to low Earth orbit.
- Geopolitics and astropolitics: power, territory, and governance on Earth and beyond.
- Remote geopolitics: outer space, the polar regions, and the deep sea.
- Humanity and the cosmos: an anthrocosmology session suited to cultural geography or IBDP Theory of Knowledge.
CPD for teachers: Subject knowledge updates in political geography, geopolitics, and space geography, with practical strategies for teaching abstract and large-scale concepts at GCSE, A Level and IB.
Geography careers mentoring: Guidance for students on where geography leads, drawing on Cliff's experience in defence, space, policy, research, and education.
EPQ supervision and coordination: Support for students with project design, research and reflection, and support for schools with setting up and running the EPQ.
Chartered Geographer (Teacher) mentoring: One-to-one support for teachers working towards Chartered status, including the competency framework, evidence and CPD records.
Fieldwork: jungle, volcanoes, and tropical rivers: Planning and leading residential fieldwork in tropical rainforest, river, and volcanic environments in Southeast Asia, with experience as medical lead.
