About Fiona

Fiona is a secondary school Head of Geography in Northamptonshire and has been teaching for over a decade. Through this role she completed the NPQ in Leading Teaching in 2024 and built a brand-new curriculum for years 7–13. She currently teaches three days a week whilst also raising three young children.

She is passionate about creating opportunities for young people and encouraging them to push themselves out of their comfort zone including supporting students through the Geological Society’s A Level competition. Fiona was also a Fawcett Fellow through UCL from 2022–2023.

Aside from teaching, Fiona is the GA’s Vice President for 2025–2026 and will take on the Presidential role from September 2026. Her presidential them will be ‘Passionate about Geography’ as a celebration of all things geography and to encourage further engagement with geography. Fiona has led the UK Polar Network’s Antarctic Flag project since 2020, through which hundreds of schools from around the world have the opportunity to send their artwork to be photographed in Antarctica. Fiona is also a UN accredited Climate Change teacher.

Fiona wrote 100 Ideas for Secondary Geography Fieldwork, which was published by Bloomsbury in 2024, and wrote a chapter on fieldwork in “What is Geography Teaching Now?” (Owen & Monk). Alongside this she has written various blog posts and articles for the GA blog, Tutor2U, HWRK Magazine, Teaching Geography, WideWorld and a variety of SubStacks.

Fiona is a regular CPD presenter for the RGS, having recently presented about strategies for multilingual students in geography and teaching about conflict. She has also presented GCSE Geography revision workshops for Tutor2U in person and online.

Format of sessions

Fiona is happy to run online training sessions and to travel around Northamptonshire (currently limited due to having a young family). Other locations considered on a case-by-case basis. Travel expenses to be paid.

Pricing

Fiona offers flexible pricing depending on the nature of the CPD. Face-to-face sessions would need to include expenses. Online sessions would depend on the duration and amount of time needed for planning and preparation. Please contact Fiona directly for this. Local student workshops in Northampton will not be charged.
