Greenland Connection: English StoryMaps

The Greenland Connection explores the people living in Greenland today, the history of exploration of Greenland, indigenous involvement in 19th century Greenland expeditions, women in the history of Greenlandic expeditions, the ordinary sailors and soldiers in the 19th century Greenland expeditions, and science undertaken in Greenland today.

The resources comprise six clear ArcGIS StoryMaps that will work in your browser, without an ArcGIS licence, and the resources include a scheme and work and lesson worksheets suitable for Geography A Level. These StoryMaps are aligned with the UK A Level in Geography and would provide an ideal extension or stretch and challenge activity for students. 

The StoryMaps provide an imaginative, visual and interactive way to explore Greenland and its long relationship with Britain, through exploration, geopolitics and science. It includes interactive maps, videos and images that are designed to give readers an insight into the Greenlandic community and history, as well as its future.

This is a free educational resource, designed to support teaching, learning and cross-disciplinary exploration at A Level standard and beyond. The resource was funded by the UK's NERC Arctic Office and developed as a collaboration between Newcastle University, the Royal Geographical Society, Middlesex University London, University of Nottingham, University of Liverpool, University of Groningen, and the Royal Museums Greenwich.
