On the 13 May, the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool, hosted on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine. Every year Eurovision raises questions about whether competing nations are part of Europe. On this webpage you will find several resources on the contest. This resource pack is open-access and consists of:

  • A resource for teachers to update your subject knowledge on the contest, written by Emily Lindley.

  • An article, by Professor Klaus Dodds, in our Geography Directions blog.

  • An ArcGIS map (embedded below). Designed to look at the geography of the song contest and other perceptions of Europe.

With messages of peace for Ukraine rolling in as we approach the 2023 competition final, can the contest live up to its original purpose for Europeans – as well as this year’s theme – to be ‘United by Music’?
