We are delighted to be working with the Department for Education to run the Society's Geography Teacher Training Scholarship programme for geographers starting their teacher training in the autumn of 2019.
These prestigious Scholarships provide outstanding trainees with significant financial and professional support. This includes £28,000 tax-free funding and a wide range of additional benefits including: training events, access to materials and resources, Fellowship of the Society, membership of the Geographical Association, networking opportunities and other support to complement teacher training.
“It was my geography teacher who inspired me to study this subject and I want the next generation of new teachers to have a similar positive impact on their pupils. So if you are a passionate geographer, who can meet our selection criteria and wants to become a teacher, I’d encourage you to apply for a RGS-IBG Geography Teacher Training Scholarship”. - Nicholas Crane, Immediate Past President (2015-2018), RGS-IBG.

"The scholarship has been amazing! As well as the financial benefits, the scheme has opened so many doors and networking opportunities with others in the field. RGS-IBG have held a number of different training events specifically for trainees which have been a great addition alongside my university training." – Rowena Butterworth, Geography Scholar 2017-18.
“The RGS-IBG Scholarship has been beneficial to me in more ways than I thought. With the CPD and research events you are always learning something new. You also get help to answer many questions I have as a trainee and gain access to a new community. The support you get from RGS–IBG is priceless and you gain some extra goodies too like personalised maps, stickers, and access to the GA. So who can say no to that?” - Thalina Choudhury, Geography Scholar 2017-18.
