The Society and the Geographical Society of Ireland (GSI) are delighted to be collaborating on a number of shared events across our two upcoming conferences.

Over the last eight months, we have been working on facilitating many colleagues from across the world to attend both the 35th International Geographical Congress (24-30 August in Dublin) and the RGS-IBG Annual Conference (27-30 August in London). This is a unique opportunity for colleagues to access two major geographical events in the same week and we are delighted to build on this collaboration in our joint programmes.

On Tuesday 27 August, the RGS-IBG conference chair's opening plenary conversation on Mapping geography will be live-streamed at 6.00pm into the Theatre at the International Geographical Congress (IGC) to enable delegates to join virtually with colleagues in London. At the same time, the IGC will host a public event for a general audience on Mapping Ireland through time: from cartographies to communities at the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin.

On Wednesday 28 August, the International Geographical Congress Keynote lecture by Professor Rob Kitchin, Digital twins, deep maps and the nature of mapping, will be livestreamed from the Helix in Dublin to the Society's Ondaatje Theatre in London. Professor Joe Smith will chair the session in Dublin with Professor Stephen Legg, hosting two discussants in London.

Through the power of technology, the organisers of both conferences will bring more than 3,000 geographers together across two cities. We look forward to celebrating this unique opportunity to further the development of our discipline and geographical communities.
