Each month, we spotlight highlights from our educational resource collection, showcasing the work the Education team is doing to facilitate dynamic ways of teaching geography today.

This month, we are showcasing the important work we deliver on oceans, and highlighting an opportunity to join Mark Evans MBE, live from an expedition along Oman’s coastline.

Oceans are a fundamental element of life on our planet. 2025 marks the mid-point on the UN decade of ocean science and June saw the UN Ocean Conference hosted in Nice, France, with the aim of accelerating action and mobilising all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean.

We support teaching and learning about the ocean through delivery of high-quality resources and events for schools. This includes the work that Mark Evans has undertaken through his Jewel of Arabia expedition and, most recently, his 70-day, carbon neutral expedition along the Omani coast!

Traveling the coastline by kayak offers a unique perspective - not only on the landscape itself, but also on the lives of the people who depend on it. Stretching 3,165 km, Oman’s coastline is rich with remarkable features revealing the country’s maritime history and incredible biodiversity.

Through his expedition, Mark hopes to inspire the next generation of ocean caretakers to help create a sustainable future.

As part of this, you and your students can join Mark as he broadcasts live from the expedition today - Friday, 5 December at 4.00pm GMT.

Alongside the livestream, you can also discover the Oman 3165 resources our Education Team have pulled together to help pupils examine the coastal landscapes observed on the journey and how the coastline continues to shape the people who live beside it.
