Editorial roles available at Society journals
Geo: Geography and Environment and Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers, two of the Society’s scholarly journals, are looking for new Editors to support the work of the journals and their editorial teams.
Geo: Geography and Environment
Geo is looking to appoint two new Editors. Geo is a fully open access journal which publishes articles focusing on the environment, climate change, and sustainability. It has a broad geographical reach in both authorship and readership, welcoming submissions from authors based in the Global South and those in underrepresented academic communities within the Global North. Geo publishes papers in a range of formats – articles, commentaries, dialogues, reviews, visual essays – that engage with environmental issues from a geographical perspective.
The new Editors will be recognised scholars with excellent networks and a research background in environmental geography. They will have a broad interest in the full range of research work undertaken across environmental geography and a strong commitment to attracting and encouraging submissions from all parts of the world. They will have a commitment to spending the time needed to perform as a proactive Editor as well as a sympathetic and diplomatic approach to authors and reviewers.
In particular, we are keen to hear from geographers with expertise in remote sensing and land use/land cover change, and those with interests in energy geographies and energy transitions, but we are open to applications from those working outside of these research areas.
Applications for the Editor roles should be submitted by Tuesday 30 June 2026. A modest honorarium is awarded. The term will normally be for five years.
Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers
Transactions looking to appoint one new Editor. Transactions is one of the foremost international journals of geographical research. It publishes the very best scholarship from around the world, across the discipline. In particular, the distinctive role of the journal is to stimulate and shape the research agenda in geography which includes publishing articles that make a major theoretical, conceptual, or empirical contribution to the advancement of geographical understanding.
The new Editor will be an internationally renowned scholar who has excellent networks worldwide and a broad interest in, and support for, the full range of research work undertaken in geography, especially at the highest international standing. They will have a commitment to attracting the best papers and to spending the time needed to perform as a proactive Editor, including actively encouraging submissions and promoting the journal, as well as a sympathetic and diplomatic approach to authors and referees. They will also be willing and able to provide proactive mentorship and support to the Transactions editorial board, which consists of mid-career scholars. We are keen for the new appointment to extend the scholarly expertise of the current editorial team.
Applications for the Editor roles should be submitted by Tuesday 30 June 2026. It is expected that the new editors will start by January 2027. A modest honorarium is awarded. The term will normally be for five years.
