The Society has collaborated with key professional bodies to develop a new guide to accreditation for geospatial professionals.

The guide, produced collaboratively with the Royal Institute of Chartered SurveyorsChartered Institution of Civil Engineering SurveyorsAssociation for Geographic InformationChartered Institute for IT and Institution of Royal Engineers, provides an introduction to professional recognition and shares information about the accreditations that each organisation is licensed to award

Recognising that there is no one-size-fits-all pathway for professional development and accreditation for geospatial professionals, the guide also highlights the pathways geospatial professionals may want to consider across different domains.

There are a range of benefits to becoming an accredited professional, from personal development to demonstrating competence, experience and professionalism to employers and clients, as well as benefits for employers such as external recognition of employee skills and knowledge, and increased employee satisfaction.

If you are interested in the Society’s accreditation scheme, Chartered Geographer, visit our website for resources on eligibility and how to apply or contact cgeog@rgs.org.
